HMIS Account How-Tos

Refer to this table for step-by-step guidance for requesting a new HMIS account or getting help with your existing account.

I want to... Steps
Get a new HMIS account
  1. Complete the HMIS Basic Navigation Training Series. Details on how to enroll in trainings are on our New User Training Page.
  2. Once you have completed the HMIS Basic Navigation Training Series, we will automatically receive your information and queue you for processing a new HMIS account.
  3. Once your account is processed, you will be sent an email with your new HMIS account information. It may go to your Spam/Junk Mail folder so please be sure to monitor it.

* If you need an expedited issuing of your HMIS account or want to check up on the status of your account processing, please submit a ticket to HMIS Support. Include the following:

  • First and last name
  • Email address you used to register in the Centralized Training Academy (CTA)
Reactivate my HMIS account (says the account is inactive when I try to login) This account is inactive

Recall the last time you logged into your HMIS account and follow the instructions for your specific case below

Case 1: I last logged into my account within the last 90 days.

  1. Submit a ticket to HMIS Support asking for your account to be reactivated.
  2. HMIS Support will reactivate your account and inform you with a response to your ticket.
  3. Immediately log into your HMIS account. This returns it to the Active state.
    • IMPORTANT: If you don’t log into your account on the day you receive the response, the system will automatically deactivate your HMIS account again at midnight
    • (If you did not log in on the day you received the response) Respond to the ticket asking to be reactivated again

Case 2: I last logged into my account more than 90 days ago.

  1. Enroll in and complete a HMIS Basic Navigation Training Series "RETAKE" course.
  2. Submit a ticket to HMIS Support asking for your account to be reactivated.
  3. HMIS Support will reactivate your account and respond to your ticket with your temporary login password
  4. Immediately log into your HMIS account. This returns it to the Active state.
    • IMPORTANT: If you don’t log into your account on the day you receive the response, the system will automatically deactivate your HMIS account again at midnight.
    • (if you did not log in on the day you received the response) Respond to the ticket asking to be reactivated again
Unlock my HMIS account (says my account is Locked when I try to login) account is locked
  1. Wait for 1 hour, then try to log in again. Be sure to double-check you are accurately entering your correct username and password.
  2. If that was unsuccessful, try to reset your HMIS password.
  3. If that still does not work, submit a ticket to HMIS Support requesting your account to be unlocked and password reset.
  4. HMIS Support will reply to your ticket when your account has been unlocked/password reset.
Reset my HMIS account password (I forgot it)
  1. Follow these instructions to reset your HMIS password yourself.
    • Be sure to enter the email address you registered your HMIS account with on the Reset Password screen
  2. If that still does not work, submit a ticket to HMIS Support requesting your password to be reset.
  3. HMIS Support will reply to your ticket when your account password has been reset.
I changed employers and want a new HMIS account with my new employer
  1. Update your Centralized Training Academy (CTA) account to your new email address at your new employer.
    • If you do not remember your password to your Centralized Training Academy (CTA) account, submit a ticket to HMIS Support requesting help in updating your Centralized Training Academy account.
      • Include your prior employer name and the email address you were using at that employer.
  2. Submit a ticket to HMIS Support from your new email address at your new employer, requesting a new HMIS account with your new employer.
    • Include your prior employer name and the email you were using at that employer. (You might be exempted from re-training requirements depending on how recently you were active in your previous HMIS account.)
  3. HMIS Support will respond to your ticket with follow up steps.
