City of LA Adds Additional Winter Shelter Beds in Advance of Storm

As part of its Augmented Winter Shelter Program activation, the City of Los Angeles will activate four Recreation and Park site shelters and showers beginning at 5:00 pm on Saturday, February 3. The City’s Recreation and Parks Department will provide facility management, while 现金娱乐网注册 and its service providers will manage the sites. These additional beds will stay in operation until the evening of February 8 but can be extended if the severe weather is expected to continue.

“We are grateful to Mayor Bass for opening Recreation and Park sites for use as shelter in addition to the Augmented Winter Shelter Program during the coming rains,” 现金娱乐网注册 CEO Dr. Va Lecia Adams Kellum said. “These sites will be critical in our effort to bring people inside safe and keep them dry this weekend.”

People experiencing unsheltered homelessness will be able to take shelter at the following locations:

  • Mid Valley Senior Citizen Center; 8825 Kester Ave, Panorama City, CA 91402 (63 beds)

  • Lincoln Heights Senior Center; 2323 Workman St, Los Angeles, CA 90031 (75 beds)

  • South LA Sports Activity Center; 7020 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90003 (50 beds)

  • Oakwood Recreation Center; 767 California Ave, Venice, CA 90291 (103 beds)

In addition to the additional shelter beds, Recreation, and Parks are opening shower sites at pools across the city, including:

  • Richard Alatorre Pool

  • Algin Sutton Pool

  • Sepulveda Pool

  • Westchester Pool

On Thursday, 现金娱乐网注册 announced the activation of the Augmented Winter Shelter Program through Tuesday, February 6. In addition to traditional shelters at fixed sites in the City and County of Los Angeles, the Augmented Winter Shelter Program provides additional interim housing options to people experiencing unsheltered homelessness during activation periods, typically during inclement or severe weather, via motel vouchers.

If you are experiencing unsheltered homelessness and are interested in obtaining shelter during the storm, please call 211 or 1-800-548-6047. You can also go directly to any of the Recreation and Park sites to obtain a bed.
